I was honoured to help Safron create a designated music space after her recent marriage and move into her new husbands home. I’ve know Safron and her music partner Heather, for a lot of years now. They’ve been creating music together since they first met in the late ‘90s. It’s been said that Safron writes the songs and Heather is the boss. That’s right from their website, so it must be true! More about them later.

At the end of the entry hall is a large room that used to be her husband’s office. He graciously relocated to a lower level room, making way for the girls to have their own designated music room.

These before pics taken on Consult day show various angles of the room that will be cleared of all existing furniture.

A plan was made for new flooring, wall colour, and window treatment. The challenge was to provide a proper layout for this multi-function space, allowing one area for the music and another for occasional guest sleep-overs.

I decided to divide the space into two distinct ‘zones’. The guest area has a sleeper-sofa and television that my clients chose to be incorporated into the room. Decorating it to also work as an everyday lounge area for the musicians to write, share ideas and access the television for work related videos came together by repurposing a few pieces from other parts of the house. I personally love to do this type of redesign whenever possible.

This highboy came from one of the bedrooms. I painted it with ‘Ash’ Fusion Mineral paint to tie it in with the new palette, while giving it a more contemporary feel and adding some nice contrast to the newly painted walls.

I shot this video of the completed room while visiting Safron not too long ago. (Be kind, I’ve sooo much to learn about video making.) The house was full of people enjoying the warm hospitality this couple willingly shared with a gang visiting with my dear friend from England, Safron’s mother.

I promised more about Heather and Safron. Actually one of the coolest things they do is to create customized songs. They’ve done some awesome wedding, birthday, retirement and funeral songs.
