Proper Area Rug Placement In Bedroom
/To be honest, this is the perfect place to say that size does matter. In any room you want your area rug to both anchor and balance the space with the right proportion.
I do see my share of improper area rug placement on my Decor Consults. Most being too small for the space, where they tend to look a little lonely and disconnected in the room. On the other hand, an area rug too big for room proportions it needs to support can make the space feel crowded and the room will actually look smaller.
How Do You Place An Area Rug In A Bedroom?
Trying to visualize how an area rug will look can be a bit of a challenge. My client taped off her floor space after our recent site visit chat about what would work best in her room. I’ve also read that you can lay out a big bed sheet on the floor and fold it down to the right dimensions for an accurate visual. Whatever works!
You don’t want your area rug touching the walls. It’s best to leave a minimum of 5” to 8” between the rug and the edges of the wall in a small or larger room respectively. You can leave as much as 18” if it’s visually pleasing. This would be my choice, especially if you have pretty flooring, and of course, if the room size with the bed size support that choice. The idea is to have your feet land on the rug when you get out of bed.
Here are some visuals I put together to help you along the way for proper rug placement in your bedroom.
